"Let's Get Them Home Together."

A 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization helping communities and individuals re-home and promote older, special needs and at-risk animals.

Heavenly Buddies

is a support charity for special shelter and privately owned pets, and the people who want to help them. We are not a shelter or rescue facility. We are a re-homing and promotional charity that encourages and supports the average citizen to visit their local shelter and publish an older, special needs or at-risk pet in their local paper.
Please read on and see how you can help these wonderful, open hearts.
LOVE THEM FOR LIFE !

Heavenly Buddies is pleased to announce that Kamaka has found her FOREVER Home!  Thank you for all your kind words of encouragement!

*Please remember that there are many breed specific shelters.  Most do not require a full breed, but breed mixes...if space allows.  Do a search for the breed you love such as:  Doberman Rescue, or Pit Bull Shelters, or Dachshund Sanctuary and many will pop up.  *

In Loving Memory

charlie and her angels

On March 21, 2014, Charlene (Charlie) January, a very well recognized Lake Havasu City resident and personality, crossed over the Rainbow Bridge to be with her precious Angle Hoa who passed before her. She is survived by Noni, Akahai, Kaloha, and Kamaka.

Charlie loved Hawaii and created an island paradise for her Angels in her beloved Lake Havasu City home. Her home was their oasis.

She was a large supporter of "Pooch Party in the Park". Charlie and her Angles always drew lots of attention from everyone in attendance in their large stroller and fabulous hand-made costumes. Charlie loved to share her little angels, attracting crowds and many smiles from adults and children alike.

As a result of her thoughtful pre-planning, Charlie arranged with Heavenly Buddies for the re-homing of her Angels. Heavenly Buddies is pleased to report that all of Charlie's Angels have been successfully placed in very loving homes. And the best news is that one of the Angels is now a Service Dog In Training!

As a way of giving back to Charlie for her strong support of Pooch Party in the Park, the cost of wellness visits, updated vaccines and micro-chipping for her little angels, has been donated by Pooch Party in the Park.

Thank you Charlie for sharing the joy and pageantry of your little ones with us all, and thank you for trusting Heavenly Buddies to re-home those sparkling hearts.

You were one of a kind and will be dearly missed by many!

Aloha `oe -Farewell to you!

Photography Tips

Always have your camera with you.  An unpredictable shot can happen at any moment!  Thank goodness for digital cameras because you can take dozens of photos and pick out the best.

Early on I said to throw out the idea of pain and suffering behind chain link fence and I'm still a very big believer in that.

Give people another reason why they should fall in love with the one you are sponsoring.

Take photos of dogs out in the play yard as they would look in someone else's yard.  Catch a mouse peeking out of a paper tube, or a ferret tied up in a knot playing.  And what's cuter than a photo of a kitten popping out of a box or cuddling with a playmate?

If it's impossible to get some free space, remember, your camera lens will fit through one of the diamonds in a chain link fence and you can still get the shot you want without the fence in the way.

Get down to the level of your sponsored pet.

This looks much better . . .

Slim

than this.

Gladys and Libby

And of course, as this last photo shows, be careful of your lighting and flash.  Some cameras will automatically flash in the shade and ruin a good photo.  If someone is lit from behind, they become a silhouette.  And if you have Gladys and Libby - forget it.  They have to be with you and on top of you so you'll never get a good shot!

I'm not a photographer (I just play one on TV).  Kidding about the TV part.  The best I can offer you is my personal experience with animals being indoors and outdoors. A true photographer can talk forever about shutter speed, lenses, lighting, focus and pixels.  But I don't think I've done too bad all things considered, and one has to allow for a certain amount of nature to take it's course.  That is why I'm convinced that if I can do it, anyone can!  You don't need to be an expert. Heavenly Buddies is here to help you though, and we'll try our best!

TAKE PLENTY OF PHOTOS AND MAKE THEM WORK FOR YOU.
"Neah, neah!  Caught ya!  I'm Shelby!"
That's her alright.  Shelby was a bit ditsy and that's the best photo I could get with her.  Hail the almighty digital camera!  But it also went together with her personality, which I played up to.
"I'm a beautiful female boxer mix but a tomboy too.  I was found as a stray ... bird!  I see a bird!  Wait, who's that getting in the car?  I'm not good with small kids and small dogs cause, well what's the point?  If you can't rough house a little bit ... is that a dead mouse I smell?"
Yep, that was Shelby alright.  And once again we're getting our message across - she's active and will knock your 3-year-old over like a bowling pin.
Work it girl!

Some times a little cropping is necessary.  My wonderful friend Shultz was deaf and 13 years old.  We didn't know at first that he couldn't hear, so when I took him out to play and get to know him better I noticed that he was awfully stubborn and didn't pay much attention to me.
I kept trying to get some kind of photo of him but he just wouldn't keep still ... until he had to relieve himself.  Ah-ha!  Caught him in mid-stream shall we say, while he was looking at me!  I cropped  a part out and was left with this great photo of Shultz looking very devilish. You wouldn't have known if I didn't tell you.
"I'm gonna tickle you if you don't    come and see me!

To place an actual face with a story is what brings people to the shelter.  There is an undeniable reality to these beautiful souls' existence and the pain or sadness that has brought them there.

And this is where the success all starts to come together.

People read the story and look at your sponsored pet.  Then they read more and look again.  Perhaps they look a third time but this time they are looking at themselves and wondering if this is an answer to their prayer, or even if they are the answer to an animals' prayer.
